Este refrán quiere decir que nuestros amigos revelan mucho de nosotros. Por ejemplo, si uno tiene muchos amigos responsables, trabajadores y amables es razonable esperar que esta persona también tenga los mismos rasgos. Por otro lado, se puede esperar que las personas que demuestran estos rasgos buenos no anden con ninguna persona mentirosa ni floja. Sin embargo, no es justo generalizar en todos los casos. Puede ser que una persona buena ande con una persona menos buena para influir en una manera positiva. No sé que tenemos un refrán así en ingles. Pero sé que muchas veces la gente juzga a otros y no es siempre justo.

Tell me who you hang around with and I’ll tell you who you are.

This refrain means that our friends reveal lots about us. For example, if one has many friends who are responsible, hard-working and friendly, it’s reasonable to expect that this person has these same traits. On the other hand, it could be expected that people who demonstrate these good traits would not hang around with a person who lies or is lazy. However, it is not fair to generalize in every case. It could be that a good person hangs out with someone who is not as good in order to be a positive influence. I don’t know if we have such a saying as this one is English. But, I know that many times people judge others and this is not always fair.
