The tradition of tapas began in the 17th century, long before the varieties available today that include the vanguard of Western gastronomy. Iberian ham and the traditional Spanish tortilla are still popular. These, as well as all types of seafood and cheeses can be served in small portions and can be considered tapas.

All over Spain, there are bars and taverns that serve their own specialties. The manner in which they are served is also quite varied. Some are on toothpicks, skewers or in their own small dish. Each region is proud of their own variety of tapas.

The perfect accompaniment for tapas is a Spanish wine, vermouth or beer.The wait staff is always available to help you make your selection.

  1. I think the summary captures the general idea of the article. Maybe you could have provided specific names of the tapas since many of us might not be familiar with these Spanish foods. Also, it would be interesting to know which region specializes in what food.
